In agreement with the US Government, the Defence Secretary announces the start of production of the UK’s first two P-8 aircraft.
Built by Boeing it is used by the Americans, Australians and Indians.
According to Boeing the P-8A Poseidon is an aircraft designed for long-range anti-submarine warfare; anti-surface warfare; and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
It is capable of broad-area maritime and littoral operations. A derivative of the Next-Generation 737-800, the P-8A, and its variant for India, the P-8I, combine superior performance and reliability with an advanced mission system that ensures maximum interoperability in the future battle space.
Jamie Burgess, vice president of Boeing Military Aircraft’s Mobility, Surveillance & Engagement division and the P-8 programme manager said:
